Our garden design process
We provide a complete garden design service across Cornwall and Devon, from the creation of landscape masterplans to detailed planting specifications. Whilst every garden is different, we use the following steps to organise the development of the design idea.
If professional advice is all you need, we also act as a creative partner to private and commercial clients, offering garden design consultancy for landscaping projects.
Consultation + feasibility
We will appraise your outdoor space and discuss design ideas, preferences, and budget. This conversation will inform appropriate design strategies, and following further discussion, the garden design brief. Our services, fees, and timeline will be confirmed before we start design work. Site analysis
Next we will explore the characteristics which influence the proposal and garden design details. We will analyse the qualities, opportunities, and limitations of the outdoor space to ensure the proposal works with the location, context and brief. We will instruct the completion of any necessary landscape surveys at this point too.
The proposal
To both interrogate and communicate the emerging design idea, we will create 3D digital models that allow you to view the proposed garden design in much the same way as you would in the real world. Once agreed, this forms the landscape masterplan for the site. We’ll discuss potential materials and planting plans at this stage too.
Detail design
Once the garden or landscape design has been confirmed, we focus upon design details to bring the proposal to life. We create construction drawings, planting plans, and detailed specifications to enable contractors to quote for the works and to see the proposal onto the ground.
Build + garden after care
For smaller projects we often oversee the agreed proposal ourselves, using reliable trades and craftspeople we work alongside regularly. For larger projects, we will produce the tender package and manage the process from start to finish.
As the garden settles and the plants establish, we help support clients and gardeners to ensure that the design matures as planned.
